The seven stories in this collection were taken from 2000AD during  September 1982 to May 1983.

GUNGE (prog280)

This story featured the return of OTTO SUMP and a new empire in the food market. basically it was the production of foodstuffs from revolting ingredients. This was a natural follow on from the "UGLY CLINIC"

Once again due to pressure from citizens DREDD is forced to act and to implement a compulsory purchase order on Otto's empire and to once again close him down.

Of course the Justice Department not wishing to lose such a valuable source of nutrition takes over the production of the food and labels them as foodstuff A,Band C. As they carry the seal of the Justice Department there is no requirement to list the ingredients.

BLOBS  (prog 290)

This story introduces the the group of MEGA CITY mobsters and their aim to commit the perfect crime.Once again it is the citizens of the city who are manipulated and the stability of their city is put at risk. The plan was to make everybody look the same and thus identification of a perp would be very nearly impossible. It was a play upon trends.

JIMPS   (prog 295)

This story details the second attempt by the citys mobsters to pull off the perfect crime after their failed first try.

This time it is the peoples fear of the judges that is played upon. Jimp stand for Judge impersonator and the plan relies heavily upon the the fact that the mere sight of a judges uniform would make the person obey the wearers command without question.

The main flaw of the plan was that while it was easy to pretend to be a judge, to survive as one requires years of training - and even then death is a distinct possibility.

SHANTY TOWN (prog 300 to 303)

This story shows the other extreme of life in Mega City One where citizens are suddenly selling body parts in order to eat. Again they are being manipulated but this time it is a matter of life or death.

although Shanty town is outside the walls of the city it is decided that the law cannot turn a blind eye to injustice and it is that man DREDD who is chosen to clean up the place.

The subsequent confrontation is violent but justified. This is probably one of the most downbeat DREDD stories ever to appear in 2000AD.
