Our next major undertaking is the establishment of a Neighbourhood Learning Centre, which is to be located in 2 adjoining bungalows (23 & 25 Edenbridge Crescent). We have been allocated these buildings by the local council ,and are currently awaiting the lease and planning permission to alter the buildings into an adult education and learning facility for the residents of Benton Estate and the surrounding areas.
Below are some photographs of the buildings as they currently stand, and as you can see there's a great deal of work required in completing this project. As well as the obvious exterior changes, the major work lies within the interior sections, and complete renovation and major structural alterations are necessary.
We have already received some initial funding from the Lotteries Board, and are presently preparing other funding applications in order to progress the work further. All in all this is a major project for us to undertake and the previous experience we have gained from past assignments will be of undoubted assistance.
Once established, the Neighbourhood Learning Centre will comprise of a reception / meeting area, a computer suite containing 14 base units and other computer equipment, as well as 2 further training / activity rooms, which will provide a wide range of courses and sessions ( see current Activities) for people of all ages, in a totally informal and friendly setting.
