Welcome to the 1st Forest Hall Scout Group
First a some background
The aim of the Scout Association is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials as responsible citizens and as members of their local and international communities. The method of achieving this is by providing an enjoyable and attractive scheme of progressive training, based on the Scout Promise and Law and guided by adult Leadership.
The progressive training available through Scouting can eventually lead to the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and nationally recognised qualifications in activities such as swimming (including sub-aqua), sailing, canoeing, mountaineering, climbing, cycling and many other outdoor sports. The high esteem that the Scout Movement is held in by most people means that membership can help open doors to college and a job.
Local history
The 1st Benton and Forest Hall Group existed from about 1923, however the present group (1st Forest Hall) started during the early 1960's with 6 boy scouts and expanded from there to include wolf cubs. In 1966 the structure of Scouting changed and the group consisted of Cub Scouts, Scouts and Venture Scouts, with Beaver Scouts being added later. Girls can join all sections of the Scout Movement, although we have none at present.
The sections of a Scout Group are:-
Beaver Scouts (age range 6 - 8 years) with the Motto - "Fun and Friends". The emphasis for this section is to have fun and start to get used to the idea of playing and working with a group of friends. A limited number of badges can be achieved.
Cub Scouts (age range 8 - 10 years 6 months) use the general Scout Motto - "Be Prepared". This section works through a progressive training schedule gaining many badges on the way, plus the usual games. Camping is still the most popular activity, with other outdoor events close behind.
Scouts (age range 10 years 6 months - 14 years) also move through a progressive training programme and take part in a much wider range of more adventurous activites than the younger group members.
Explorer Scouts ( age range 14 - 18 years) This new section is to be organised at a District level.

The current situation
At the present moment the 1st Forest Hall Scout Group is severely understrength. The Beaver Scout section in not meeting and the Cub Scout and Scout sections are holding joint meetings on WEDNESDAY evenings from 6:30 - 8:00 PM in the SPRINGFIELD COMMUNITY CENTRE, FOREST HALL. The group is extremely likely to close down unless the new leaders can be found.
